Charity Steward's Pages

My name is Peter Jones and I am the Charity Steward for the Province of Oxfordshire. One of my hobbies is swimming and I have used this interest to good effect in the past to raise money for charity. As a result I have been nicknamed the Provincial Shark.
My responsibilities include co-ordinating charity fundraising/donations and advising individual lodge charity stewards on all matters concerned with charity'.
In this section I hope to keep you updated with the Festival 20-11, particularly with where we are regarding our target of £1.2m

A Sharks Tale
Freemasons in Oxfordshire continue to donate large sums of money to charity. That support not only includes Masonic charities but extends to many other non-Masonic charities and International Appeals. They also participate in local fundraising ventures and worthwhile causes.
On behalf of the Provincial Grand Master can I again thank you for your tremendous efforts in donating such magnificent sums to charity. I have shown some of the figures below so that you too can feel as pleased as I do and give yourselves a pat on the back. All figures relate to the year ended 31 December 2009 and during that year our charitable giving exceeded over one hundred and fourteen thousand pounds.
The Oxfordshire 2011 Festival in aid of the Masonic Samaritan Fund has set us a challenge - to raise £1.2M in six years. Our aim for 2009 was to try and reach the £1 million mark by 31 December. I am pleased to report that we had raised that amount by 30 November and I am confident that our final target will be achieved. Regular Newsletters are being published regularly throughout the 2011 Festival to keep you informed of the progress. A number of successful fundraising events have already taken place and more are planned. You have taken up the challenge and we now need to maintain the momentum.
£48481 - CONGRATULATIONS!
This was the amount of donations to Non-Masonic Charities and good causes.
A total of 106 different Charities benefited from your kindness and generosity.
£4137 - GREAT!
Lodge donations to the three other main Masonic Charities and local Masonic charities.
THE GOOD WORK GOES ON!
Other notable donations in 2009 included £4523 to four of our local hospices, Katherine House, Helen & Douglas House, Sobell House and the Sue Ryder Care Home. £2365 to the Oxford Cancer Centre, £4665 to SeeSaw and £3000 to both Help for Heroes and Thames Valley & Chiltern Air Ambulance.
This newsletter is produced to supplement the information on the Provincial website; www.oxfordshiremasons.org.uk.
If you wish to have any fundraising events, or any items of interest, submitted for inclusion in the 2011 Newsletter or on the Provincial website, please contact me, or your Charity Representative.
The Festival website has been set up to advertise your events and can only exist with your support – is your event on there?
Yours sincerely and fraternally
Peter Jones
